Rethinking the travel agency
experience
A travel agency that acts as your local guide in your destination, helping you appreciate and adapt to local culture in order to increase your confidence, awareness and sense of security.

Research: what was the current situation and who were the future users of travel agencies?
The first requirement was to understand the current situation in regards to travel and the effects of the pandemic on travel agencies. After this, our goal was to understand the future users who would be our “next generation travellers”.
How did we learn more about our users?
In order to know or comprehend what the future looked like for travel agencies we needed to know what it was that users thought about them, what difficulties they faced, what assumptions they made, what needs they had.
Research Conclusion: what did we find out?
So, after we had learned that travel agencies need to recover financially from the 2020 blow and that Generation Z travellers are unique future travellers. What major insights did we acquire in the end?

Explore hidden gems, the places that only locals know and have a unique experience

Being aware of where you are and where you are going, knowing that there is someone always to connect with when things go wrong

Plans are always changing and having ‘on-the-spot’ offers motivates travellers
User Journey: what challenges do they face?
Users find themselves with generic information that doesn’t provide any real sense of meaning to their travel.
When faced with the reality of their destinations the language can be a problem according to where they are, this brings uncertainty, confusion, and a feeling of unease.
Local customs can be strange to foreigners in certain places and traditional support from travel agencies do not manage to cater to these problematics.

How might we?
How might we improve the travel experience for users who feel uncertain, confused, and uneasy in new parts of the world?
Scenario
Support travellers in the travel experience, making them feel the presence and knowledge of a more experienced guide, available to suggest what to do, from pragmatic and personal requests (what to pack) to guidance once on site (what not to do).
But also, allow travellers to go to extreme or perceived risky places safely. Helping them to feel protected against risks, changes and unforeseen events.

Local experts that provide you with recommendations on local gems. Access to in-depth experiences provided by the local experts.
A safety map
Allows travelers to see crowded places, risky areas and keep track of their fellow travelers. Contact the travel agency, in case of an emergency.
Feel like a local
Cultural immersion by consistently keeping the traveler updated on cultural information of the place they're visiting.
